Work With Us
We have an exciting full-time opportunity for an Associate Program Director, S&T Policy Fellowships (STPF) in our Washington, DC office. This individual will oversee the day-to-day and annual operations of the STPF program and help drive and implement programmatic strategic development. STPF provides opportunities to outstanding scientists and engineers to learn first-hand about policymaking and contribute their knowledge and analytical skills in the policy realm. Fellows serve yearlong assignments in the federal government and represent a broad range of backgrounds, disciplines, and career stages. The Associate Program Director will have the opportunity to use his or her insight and ability to create and implement real advances in a highly visible and important program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and update annual operating plan and standard operating procedures for the entire program
Oversee processes, goals, timelines, and deliverables for STPF activities across STPF functional groups
Manage and create workflow, processes, and documentation between groups
Set and continually manage and communicate project expectations with multiple units in the team
Prioritizes requests and escalate as required to the STPF Director
Oversee STPF technology systems, including but not limited to Salesforce and Marketo, to ensure that appropriate systems are in place to meet overall team needs and relevant staff across the program are properly trained
Ensure that STPF program data is reliable and available and that relevant staff understand and comply with their responsibilities in generating and using STPF data
Perform data analysis and compilation for tracking, reporting, and program evaluation purposes
Supervise systems team which consists of a team lead and a business analyst
Monitor trends in science policy and training of scientists and engineers
Use knowledge of science and engineering research and education enterprise, combined with constantly evolving science policy landscape, to identify and implement opportunities for program development
Work with the STPF Director in establishing new initiatives and collaborations to expand and enhance opportunities for fellowship assignments, program activities, and networks
Prepare/edit high level communication materials in support of STPF programmatic activities and funding, including policy documents and program descriptions
Provide critical input to and review of proposals and budgets for funding from government and private sources, MOUs, and hosting and placement documents
Serve as a senior ambassador for program, present at professional and governmental conferences, and serve as senior STPF staff member in the director’s absence

Key Requirements
Minimum of a Master’s degree in any field of science, engineering, or science policy; Doctoral degree preferred
Minimum of three years’ experience in an operations or project management, including developing or working with a global project plan
Minimum of three years’ experience managing the business aspects of development, assessment, security and maintenance, and budgets of systems and supporting technologies
Demonstrated past performance leading and managing teams responsible for key organizational initiatives
Familiarity with how science is used in the federal context and with trends in the training of scientists and engineers
Experience with government contracts, vendors, and budgeting preferred
Salesforce User or other CRM experience required, Salesforce Administrator experience preferred
Experience using Marketo or another marketing automation platform a plus
Experience in agile development, the collection of system requirements, technical RFPs, contracts and supervision of vendor relations preferred
Strong knowledge of technical training methods for staff success and data governance
Experience with data analysis and data management, and using data to make programmatic decisions
Ability to apply a broad range of latitude and independent judgment to make sound decisions, devise solutions and manage programs and projects successfully
Capacity to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks and to work well under deadline pressure
Ability to work well with a diverse group of people--bridging constituencies, building consensus, and solving problems
Ability to execute work based on objectives rather than explicit instructions
Strong attention to detail, adherence to deadlines, and excellent follow through
