Position Summary: 

The Diversity & Engagement Manager will provide support to the Director of Diversity & Inclusion to facilitate and implement internal diversity and inclusion (D&I) strategy, action plans, goals and organizational benchmarks. The Manager will develop and manage systems and metrics to monitor goals and benchmarks related to D&I initiatives, manage and implement select departmental programs, and help coordinate and implement D&I curriculum and trainings to ensure policies are carried out through practice. The Diversity & Engagement Manager will serve as an integral member of a staff team and support to the department director to ensure the diversity, equity and inclusion interests and needs of HRC are respected and met. 

 Position Responsibilities:

  • Provide general support to the Director of Diversity & Inclusion in the execution of the work of the department.
  • Work with other staff stakeholder teams as needed (e.g. the Human Resources & Leadership Development Team and the Executive Team) to implement clearly defined internal D&I strategies.
  • Manage systems and maintain data to monitor goals and benchmarks. Maintain a dashboard to ensure accountability, tracking, and monitoring of internal staff D&I efforts.
  • Coordinate and help implement a curriculum for developing staff competencies on a range of diversity issues, including LGBTQ identities and intersectional issues. 
  • Help prepare and deliver highly-engaging/effective in-person and online training, presentations and discussions on a wide variety of topics.
  • Provide support to the Diversity Leadership Team, a coordinating body overseeing D&I activities throughout the HRC board and staff structure.
  • Help prepare periodic reports to senior HRC leaders.
  • Inspire colleagues to achieve new levels of D&I expertise, confidence, and productivity.
  • Keep abreast of HRC’s climate by regularly talking with all stakeholders.
  • Represent HRC at various community, civic, and professional meetings and conferences as requested.
  • Provide organizational support to implement internal D&I goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.  

Position Qualifications:

  • Commitment to LGBTQ equality is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) and minimum three years related experience. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills. Experience in public speaking, facilitation and training & development of diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Foundational knowledge about racial and gender justice issues, and inclusion concepts like intersectionality required.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency across multiple communities. Experience working within underrepresented/marginalized communities a plus.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, goal-driven and confirmed ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with a positive attitude, meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced, highly-collaborative environment
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to navigate different perspectives. Excellent active listening skills.
  • Must be self-motivated.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality, astuteness and strong professional ethics are required.
  • Ability to effectively work across a wide variety of constituency groups and organize support for goals and plans.
  • Ability to function with a high level of independence and to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent judgment, political sensitivity and the ability to act collaboratively and discreetly.
  • Exceptional time-management skills, work ethic and ability to work under tight deadlines and multi-task.
  • Ability to effectively use a variety of computer programs including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Google Apps, Project and other applications, including web-based tools.
  • Ability to navigate databases.
  • This position requires a willingness, ability and flexibility to regularly work hours that vary from standard office hours, including weekends and evenings, to support events and meetings.
  • Some travel is required, including weekends. 

All positions at the Human Rights Campaign may require travel on a regular basis or periodically.  Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.
