Summary Statement

AARP’s Office of International Affairs seeks a part-time intern to work in our offices in midtown Manhattan. The intern will be involved with advocacy at the United Nations on a variety of issues related to global population aging, including the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals Agenda, as well as the Rights of Older Persons.


AARP’s Office of International Affairs seeks a part-time intern to work in our offices in midtown Manhattan. The intern will be involved with advocacy at the United Nations on a variety of issues related to global population aging, including the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals Agenda, as well as the Rights of Older Persons. The work includes conducting research, uploading content to the website of the Stakeholder Group on Ageing (SGA), managing updates from the UN and other stakeholders re: meetings and statements pertaining to the SGA advocacy. Other responsibilities include organizing events and attending meetings related to issues relevant to AARP at the United Nations. In addition, an opportunity to assist with social media. Some administrative and clerical work is also required.

AARP’s Office of International Affairs seeks to help people live longer, healthier, more financially secure and productive lives by identifying and sharing the best ideas and practices on key policy issues. Some of our key programs include:

The UN Briefing Series, held annually in NY, International Day of Older Persons, World Health

Day, World Elder Abuse Awareness Day and other such events.

The position provides an opportunity to interact with High level Governmental officials as well as diplomats, think tanks, academics, civil society and the corporate sector.


We seek candidates who are graduate students who are pursuing a degree in a relevant discipline, such as international relations, human rights, public health, sociology, economics, political science, gerontology, or related fields. Candidates should be able to work in a fluid environment and are able to multi task, interact with high level UN officials, work with a diverse group of individuals and should have excellent written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of PowerPoint, Twitter, Excel and databases required.

Interns must be currently enrolled in a degreed program at an accredited college or university; maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post doctorate students.

AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
